报告摘要：Visual cameras have been deployed at almost every critical location and they continually generate huge volumes of video data. Current visual processing technologies are inefficient at handling these data for surveillance purposes and considerable human effort is needed to process them. Recently, we have proposed a system, EV-Surv, which integrates electronic signal sensing in visual cameras, using electronic footprints to help sort through this mass of data. Electronic footprints are wireless signals emitted by mobile devices carried by people. They are ubiquitous and amenable to collection and indexing. We study how to use electronic footprints to help identify an object’s appearance model quickly and accurately from large volumes of video data. We have formulated the problem and provided efficient algorithms to achieve identification with large data sets. We have also implemented the system and conducted real world experiments and simulation-based studies, which confirm the proposed algorithms’ feasibility and efficiency.

In this talk, we will discuss the design and development of the EV-Surv system as well as related issues such as privacy protection and real world deployment at large scale.

报告人简介：宣东分别于1990年和1993年在上海交通大学电子工程系获得工学学士和工学硕士学位；并于2001年在美国德州A&M大学计算机科学与工程系获得博士学位。他从1993年至1998年于上海交通大学电子工程系任教；目前是美国俄亥俄州立大学计算机科学与工程系教授。他的主要研究方向为分布式计算、计算机网络和信息安全。他先后主持、共同主持和参与了美国自然科学基金、美国陆军研究总署、中国自然科学基金、中国科技部973和香港科技发展基金等15个中美科技项目。他先后发表130多篇期刊和会议论文。他是计算机网络和分布式系统期刊IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems的编委。他于2012年8月作为美方主席主持了由中美自然科学基金会联合资助的中美公共卫生和自然灾害恢复的环境无线监测工作会议，对中美科学家在环境无线监测方面合作起了推动作用。他先后担任IEEE INFOCOM、IEEE ICDCS、ACM MobiHoc、IEEE RTSS和IEEE ICNP等计算机网络和分布式计算领域会议的程序委员会委员，并担任IEEE ICDCS 2010和IEEE MASS 2010的程序委员会副主席和IEEE NAS 2010程序委员会联合主席。他于1995年获得中国电子工业部科学技术一等奖；2005年获美国国家自然科学基金杰出青年学者奖和2009年获美国俄亥俄州立大学工程学院研究奖。
